The nobleman was watching television when suddenly an important update was reported. A werewolf had escaped from a sanctuary and had been seen in the woods. Two victims had been killed.

The nobleman ran straight to his wife’s room but she wasn’t there. The nobleman looked all over the palace but she was nowhere to be seen. The nobleman let out a huge yelp and asked for his hunter. The hunter ran right to him.
“What do you want?” said the hunter.
“ I believe my wife was has been kidnapped. I was just watching television when I heard that a werewolf had escaped in the woods and two people have been killed. If my wife is in the woods she will be killed as well. I want you to take this sword to the woods and kill the werewolf”

The hunter ran down to the woods and hid behind a tree. After waiting there for almost two hours he saw the werewolf. The hunter jumped out from behind the tree and cut the werewolves paw off. However, the werewolf was not killed but injured. The werewolf ran from the hunter. The hunter put the bloody paw in the pocket of his shirt and then went back to the palace. The hunter then showed the nobleman the paw. The nobleman believed that he had killed the werewolf but still could not find his wife.

The nobleman walked down to the kitchen to get a bite to eat. To his surprise his wife was making soup with only one hand. The other hand was in the pocket of her apron. The nobleman asked the his wife
“Why are you cooking with one hand?”
His wife replied
“I am using one hand because I am the werewolf your hunter chased in the woods.”

DONG, DONG the clock struck twelve.

The nobleman’s wife started to grow fur.
“What thick hair you have” said the nobleman.
Then suddenly the nobleman’s wife grew big brown eyes and the she started to grow long pointy nails that were as sharp as a knife.
“What long nails you have” said the nobleman.
“The better to stab you with” said the nobleman’s wife and she pounced on him. Blood went everywhere.

Now the nobleman is dead and we all know that all along the werewolf was the nobleman’s wife and that this werewolf ain’t coming back.
At least we hope she is not coming back.

Brittany.

DragonColouring Story - Merit Award 2004

A Dragon Story
by James Brown

There was once a dragon, not to mention a beautiful girl dragon that I saw once. I was once exploring a very thick Jungle when I happened to step into an open area with a huge nest. Wait a minute, did I say huge nest? I’ve never seen one of those! I saw 3 eggs with black spots on each one. Suddenly, I heard this noise which echoed through the Jungle and it doesn’t happen very often at all and then, two figures, very small figures approached the nest. As they did, they got bigger and bigger and bigger. Soon, there were two large dragons near the nest. Then, there was a cracking noise. The eggs were hatching!! There was a green dragon, a red dragon and a purple, then they saw me hiding, and guess what they did? They started to chase me all the way around the nest again and again and again!!! Then the male dragon gave a sort of a loud yell and put his paw out like you would expect, sort of like a stop sign, except the stop sign was moving. But those baby dragons did not listen. They just kept on chasing me through the Jungle, up hills, down hills, through small streams, through rabbit holes – I could still fit through them because I was small enough – around tree trunks, through caves, through stampedes, off cliffs - and I didn’t hurt myself, through vines, through waterfalls, down steep alleyways, running in, out, here, there, everywhere!!! I was running all about! I never stopped running until I lost them and I did, then I saw a big red dragon having a drink at the stream. The forest was very quiet and so was the dragon. It didn’t seem to notice me, so I went to wash my face with water to cool down because I was very tired from being chased by those baby dragons. I took off my backpack, and got my bottle of water and my chicken-loaf sandwich. I made a fire to keep warm, as it was getting dark and cold. I caught a fish for my bush tucker, and another fish, murry-cod and golden perch - my favourite - oh, and I forgot to tell you, that I had another friend camping with me, Nicholas was his name. We woke the next morning at 6:00 AM and did a little fishing. We had fried eggs and fried fish for breakfast. And then, suddenly we were surrounded by lots of dragons. They were hungry, but we caught enough fish for all of them, then I caught the biggest fish I could possibly catch for the most beautiful dragon I have ever seen!!!

Dragon Colouring Competition

Xavior was created by Sorayah Rachman

Dragon Colouring Story Competition Winner 2004

Rainbow Dragon the Myth
by Emily Di Lorenzo-Slater

Chester was an only child. He lived with his mother Lucy and his father Mike in Perth, Australia. Lucy and Mike were museum curators and their next assignment was to find artefacts in China. Chester hated these trips because they were boring, and he always had to find ways to entertain himself. His parents took him along because they thought it would be educational.

Chester helped his dad take the suitcases out of the attic. While up there he found an old backpack that his father took with him on his last expedition to China. He asked his father if he could use it to put his stuff in to take on the plane. His father said yes. While packing the backpack, Chester found an old map in one of the pockets. He stared at the map for quite a while. It was a map of an unnamed village, showing details of houses, farms, and figures walking along a gravel path, but what caught Chester’s attention, was a picture of a dragon near a cave, at the bottom right hand corner. The dragon was brightly coloured. Every scale on his body was a different colour. He then heard his mother call him for dinner, so he quickly folded the map and put it away in his backpack.

During dinner Chester was very quiet. All he could think about was getting back to his room and his map. For the first time he was excited about going on a trip with his parents. Chester gulped down his dinner then raced back to his room, telling his parents he has lots of packing to do.

Chester couldn’t sleep that night, just thinking about the map and his trip. He just wanted morning to come so they could get to the airport. At last he nodded off, and was woken by his alarm clock. He jumped out of bed and got dressed. He raced into his parent’s room and found them already awake and dressed. His parents had never seen him this excited about a trip. They were pleased.
They finally arrived at the airport, and boarded the plane. ‘Only 10 hours’, thought Chester, he knew the time would go slowly. Luckily for Chester, because he hadn’t slept much the night before, he fell asleep on the plane and woke as they were about to land in China.

Even though they had landed in China, they still had a long bus ride into the country to the village. A few hours later they were at a village with gravel paths, oak and wattle trees and underground houses made of wood, plastics and metal they bought from the market down the road. Chester unpacked and had his dinner, then went to bed. He pulled the map out of his bag and noticed it looked exactly like the village.

The next morning while his parents were looking for artefacts, Chester went exploring. He looked at the map and headed towards the paddocks. In the distance he could see cows and sheep just like on the map. So he continued to walk north. Once, he stopped to have a drink and something to eat from the lunch he packed. A cow walked up from behind Chester and knocked his head in a different direction. In the distance he saw a cave so he began to walk to it.

Chester walked into the cave down a hole. He saw some sunlight through a hole in the roof, on the floor in the sunlight there was another map. On the map was a dragon, exactly the same one on his dads map. The dragon was floating over a village with a goldish-yellow opal, the size of a tennis ball. Chester continued his journey and found himself in a big space with a table in the middle. He examined this room and found a button in the middle of the table. Chester pressed the button without fear or without thinking. All of a sudden a rock was lifted from under the table. Chester recognised the rock instantly - it was the opal in the second map. Chester grabbed the opal and ran through a door that just opened for some reason. Chester found another room with a big ice sculpture of a dragon. It had faint colours if looked closely. Chester put the opal on a metre high stone pillar and all of a sudden the opal sunk into the stone. The ice sculpture melted and the dragon inside of the ice faded away, and another door opened which led to a way out. Chester ran outside and saw the dragon over the village, everyone in the village just continued with their gardening, cooking and cleaning, they didn’t notice the dragon. Chester ran to the village and told all the villagers that there is a rainbow dragon floating above them. All the villagers looked, but none of them saw a dragon floating above them. So they went on with their jobs. Chester went into his underground house excited and confused. He fell asleep until he was called for dinner. Chester enjoyed his dinner of hot chicken curry. He went outside and the dragon was still there but everyone still could not see it. Chester found that the dragon had gotten hold of the gold opal and the opal’s colour was fading.

All the villagers saw the dragon now for some reason. The dragon dropped the opal and it fell straight into Chester’s arms, the opal is now drained of its colour. Rainbow coloured beams of light came from the dragon’s claws, horns and its whiskers. The village people muttered something in Chinese.

Chester’s mum and dad came out of their house and began to stare. The villagers said that the dragon is a myth and it absorbs the colour out of the opal to power up and he uses his powers to help the villagers. The dragon was also resistant to human weapons, and he was the protector of the village.

The dragon fell asleep and hid behind a blackberry bush and started to snore. The villagers began to look for a scroll or parchment to find how to tame and wake the dragon. Chester searched his bag for his dad’s map and gave it to the villagers. They all look for a note on the front but there was one on the back but it was in Chinese. The villagers translated: “To wake the dragon click your fingers twice and repeat 3 times, to tame the dragon you must feed it many different kinds of food it likes and you will win its respect”. So that night they tamed the dragon while Chester was asleep.

The next morning it was time to leave. Chester packed the opal in a safe spot in his suitcase. With all the excitement of finding the dragon, his parents didn’t spend much time looking for their artefacts, so Chester said he would lend his opal to the museum. His parents were very proud of him.

Chester thought back to when he was first told about this trip. He was sure he was going to have a boring holiday, but instead, he discovered an opal, unleashed a dragon and had heaps of fun.

He couldn’t wait for his next trip and the adventures it might bring.

The End……….
